Sensitivity of the mangrove-estuarine microbial community to aquaculture effluent

Summary Mangrove-dominated estuaries host a diverse microbial assemblage that facilitates nutrient and carbon conversions could play vital role in maintaining ecosystem health. In this study, we used 16S rRNA gene analysis, metabolic inference, concentrations, δ13C δ15N isotopes to evaluate the impact of land use change on near-shore biogeochemical cycles community structures within mangrove-dominated estuaries. Samples close proximity active shrimp aquaculture were high NH4+, NO3− NO2−, PO43−; lower diversity; dominated by putative nitrifiers, denitrifies, sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. Near intact mangrove forests observed presence potential nitrogen fixers genus Calothrix order Rhizobiales. We identified possible indicators effluents such as Pseudomonas balearica, Ponitmonas salivibrio, family Chromatiaceae, Arcobacter. These results highlight sensitivity estuarine-mangrove community, their functions, changes.
